Blueberry Crepes with Vanilla Ice Cream



When your day starts off with crepes, blueberries, and ice cream for breakfast, you can't help but think that although being a grown-up involves stressy things like mortgages and taxes, when you are a grown-up you can make decisions that involve dessert for breakfast. Sweet indulgent dessert. All in moderation though. For instance, yesterday I had oatmeal for breakfast, loaded with nuts and fruit, and tomorrow I will probably have yogurt with granola and berries. But today, on an especially fine sunny morning, I had french vanilla ice cream, sweet juicy blueberry compote, drizzled over the most delicate crepes you could imagine, and I licked the plate clean. But then I discovered that I had splattered blueberry sauce all over my pants and shirt and then spent the next 10 minutes scrubbing, and then laundry, and then I noticed that the house needed vacuuming and now I take everything back about the awesomeness of being a grown-up. If I were five I'd would have thought that purple spots on my pants were amazing and dust bunnies were something worth saving. But I also wouldn't have know how to use a stove, so there's that.

Hazelnut Cake with Fresh Mint Chocolate Pudding and a Creme Fraiche Whipped Cream

Lets be honest here. We can do that right? In the last 3 weeks I have developed this unhealthy (yet very practical) obsession with online shopping. I think I've exhausted all of the furniture/house/interior decorating options here in Seattle, each time leaving empty handed, and a little more indecisive than when I started this whole buying furniture for a house thing. The thought of getting into the car, driving across town in rush hour, just to be disappointed that most of the furniture, while esthetically pleasing, lacks comfort and functionality. What ever happened to those big lazy boy reclining chairs? Do they still exist? because if so, I think I need two. So I've turned to the Internet. I've purchased a whole variety of things (some important, some less so) including some art for the house, 8 patio chairs, 4 bar stools, an area rug, safe-for-humans-and-pets fungicide for the garden, and a fit bit. The fancy bracelet one. As I sit here and type away, I am simultaneously browsing for hallways sconces and an aero press, eating hazelnut cake, and texting. Multi-tasking at its finest.

Zucchini and Corn Parmesan Fritters

You guys, these corn, zucchini, Parmesan fritters are the most delicious and exciting thing that has come out of my kitchen this summer. After a major recipe fail that happened a few days earlier, I am so happy that I can share something that is making me, and hopefully you, really excited. At the beginning of the week, I sat down with my pot of mint tea and some homemade life-changing bread, to brainstorm a recipe. I stumbled across a fresh zucchini pasta that looked pretty incredible. I picked up a few ingredients from the store, used my fancy julienne peeler to slice up a few zucchini, and I made this big bowl of fresh summer pasta. I hated it. There were too many flavors, the dressing was all off, etc. It was a disaster. I was back to square one.

Raspberry Scones + a few pics from our Gulf Islands Getaway


After 5 years of marriage, still together, happier and stronger than ever, Brent and I decided to celebrate by spending 10 days in a car. We started the trip by driving from Seattle to Vancouver to take the ferry to Victoria to spend 4 hours at our favorite restaurant. I know 4 hours sounds like a long time to spend at a restaurant, and I assure you that there wasn't a play or a show included. It wasn't dinner theater. We were just eating. After dinner, while in a sugar induced coma, I drifted to sleep in the dreamiest bed you can imagine, made of clouds and cotton candy. It was pretty amazing that we got to stay at a place with this much comfort and style, but you never start your trip with the best accommodations. You're always going to be comparing the next stay with that one.
